ANNUAL SPENCER ASSOCIATION REUNION

September 25-28, 2008

Wildwood Crest/Cape May N.J.

As we announced in the January Newsletter, we have had a change of plans and location for the 2008 reunion. Due to the dedication and persistence of one of our members we have found a long awaited new home for the Spencer mast, plaque and bell. The masts’ new home is at the Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May. In conjunction with the annual Doug Munro memorial remembrance ceremony there will be a dedication of the mast to be held on Saturday, Sept. 27. 2008. Because of this important event, we moved the reunion to Cape May.

The Shalimar Resort & Conference Center in Wildwood Crest, NJ will be our ‘home’ for the reunion which will be Sept 25-28, 2008. The address is 6405 Atlantic Avenue, Wildwood Crest, NJ 08260, 609-522-0609. Deadline for hotel reservations under reunion price is August. 25, 2008.

The rate for our stay is $299 plus tax for the four full nights. There are no daily rates. This means that if you need to leave early, the rate will not change. The rate is based on double occupancy. In addition, when you make your reservation you will be required to pay $75.00 deposit. If you wish to arrive early or leave later you can negotiate rates with the management. Please remember to mention the ‘Spencer Association’ when calling for your reservation.

Friday – Breakfast Buffet and Meeting 8:30 a.m.

11:00 a.m. Graduation Training Center (arrive 10:30) followed by

12:15 quick tour of recruit regimental area, including Munro Hall

3:00 p.m. WWII Trolley Tour, Cape May

Dinner on your own

Hospitality room

Saturday – Dedication of Mast, Training Center (mid morning)

6:00 p.m. Banquet at Hotel

Sunday – 1:00 p.m. Whale Watch (arrive 12:30)

5:00 p.m. Sandwich/salad buffet at the hotel.

Registration fee will be $100.00 per person. Deadline for registration is August 1, 2008. Cost for all of the activities listed are included in the registration fee. Please make your checks out to: SPENCER ASSOCIATION. Mail your registration form and check to: Jack Shampine, 32 Carriage Lane, NW, Cartersville, GA 30120.

For those flying you need to fly to Philadelphia. From there you can take the train to the bus station. The bus will take you to Wildwood Crest. We strongly suggest renting a car at the airport for convenience. We will carpool to and from events with those who have cars as much as possible. Since we need to reduce the amount of vehicles parking at the Training Center we will appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
