This site was created in memory of my father, IC1/c Le Roy J.  Havekost Sr. who served onboard the USS Spencer during World War II.  Fortunately, before his death he was able to attend all of the reunions from 1975 to 1987. My mother was also able to attend several reunions before her death in 1979. 

My father shared many of his Coast Guard experiences and memories with me.  I have met many of his former shipmates and Coast Guard buddies. Dad was extremely proud to have served his country in the Coast Guard, as I was equally proud to have served my country in the US Navy. It is for that reason that I want to dedicate this website to all who have served on the USS Spencer and to those who have served and currently serve on the new WMEC-905.
